Two new volunteer roles: community outreach, crate manager!

August 3, 2010

Now that we have moved to our new location we have two additional volunteer positions that we need your help to fill. If you are able to help out but are already signed up for shifts, let me know and we'll figure something out. Please check out the calendar and email volunteers@crownheightscsa.org if you can fill shifts. Any shift that says open is still available.

Crate Manager
We need volunteers to fill in a shift from 3-4pm at 66 Rogers, to take crates and supplies from the basement of the building up to the distribution level. Will, the farmer, picks up the crates from the prior week when he drops off the current week's distribution, and they are stored all week in the building's basement. Volunteers should be able-bodied and have some strength, as the crates can be heavy. And it is up and down stairs to the basement. Volunteers will be assisting someone from the core team, who gets there at 3pm.

Community Relations
We need volunteers to do shifts at our new distribution site, from 5-6:30 and 6:30-8pm, to act as a 'community relations person.' The volunteer stands right outside the gate to the site with handouts that contain detailed information about the CSA, and about our weekly payment share option, and if people walk by who express interest in what we're doing you talk to them about our CSA, what it is and how it works, and show them the contact information on the handout. You can ask the site coordinator to show the person around inside the distribution site, but given that only members are generally permitted in, the visitor should be accompanied and "given a tour" and shown what the shares can include. If interested in joining you can tell them that we have a limited number of shares left for this season, but will also be open in the winter and next summer so if they are interested they should email or call the number on the handout.
